Nigeria focuses on the development of the solar energy industry and the construction of technology parks

Recently, the Nigerian government has begun to focus on the application of solar power plants. In mid-April, HenshawEwa, the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology of Nigeria, stated at a press conference that Nigeria would focus on building a technology park, with an emphasis on developing technologies and equipment related to the solar industry. HenshawEwa said that the government does not object to importing solar components from abroad, but he also stated that building an independent photovoltaic industry base in Nigeria is a fundamental measure to ensure domestic supply.
At the beginning of June, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Power and Steel, led by Minister ChineduNebo, signed an agreement with the Korean company HQMC for HQMC to install 10GW of solar power plants before 2024. Under this cooperation framework, HQMC will invest 30 billion US dollars in the project starting from January 2014. HQMC announced that the company will complete at least 1GW annually over the next 10 years. At the beginning of June, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Power and Steel, led by Minister ChineduNebo, signed an an agreement with the Korean company HQMC for HQMC to install 10GW of solar power plants before 2024.
