What is the Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS)?
The Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS) is an online system for Chinese citizens holding a ten-year valid B1/B2, B1 or B2
EVUS When will EVUS registration become mandatory?
Ten-year B1/B2 B1 or B2 visa holders will start using this system from November 29, 2016. Before this date, those holding a ten-year B1/B2, B1 or B2 visa can still travel to the United States without using the EVUS system. Travelers who are required to register with EVUS and have not registered will not be issued a boarding pass or allowed entry via land border crossings. All travelers holding other valid visa types can travel to the United States normally and will not be affected by the EVUS activation date.
EVUS When will registration begin?
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP ) expects to begin accepting voluntary pre-registration in mid-October, before the mandatory EVUS registration on November 29. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Embassy will issue an announcement when the system is activated. At that time, all individuals holding a People's Republic of China passport and a B1/B2, B1, or B2 visa with the longest validity period (10 years) will be able to register on EVUS to avoid any inconvenience on or after November 29. How much does it cost to register?
EVUS EVUS
registration costs $8 or approximately 53 Chinese Yuan. The fee covers the cost of operating the system. EVUS registration can be updated at any time by completing a new registration. This means that travelers must pay a fee each time they submit updated information. What is the impact on current visa holders and new applicants?
EVUS Applicants holding a ten-year valid B1/B2, B1 or B2 visa issued before November 2016
must register on EVUS after the regulation comes into effect to use their visa. Applicants who obtain a ten-year valid B1/B2, B1 or B2 visa from November 29, 2016 must register before their first trip to the United States. Registration for all applicants is valid for two years. If either the visa or passport expires, the EVUS registration information becomes invalid. Visa holders must then log in to EVUS to update their personal information before traveling to the United States. How often do travelers need to update their EVUS
information? Each information update is considered an EVUS
registration. A single registration is generally valid for two years. If either the traveler's visa or passport expires, the EVUS registration information becomes invalid. Chinese citizens holding a ten-year valid B1/B2, B1 or B2 visa need to update their information when traveling to the United States (if the two-year registration has expired) or obtaining a new passport. If my personal information has not changed, do I still need to register in the EVUS
system? Yes. To ensure you have the latest EVUS
registration, you need to register according to the instructions of the EVUS system and check the personal information previously provided to ensure that the information is accurate. If the information you provide is still accurate, your EVUS registration will be valid for two years. During this period, if your passport expires, the EVUS registration will also become invalid. Can I update my personal information before my upcoming trip to the US? Do I need to update the information if I don't plan to go to the US within two years?
Once the system is activated, travelers to the U.S. on or after November 29, 2016
must complete a valid EVUS registration before traveling, including before arriving at the airport. Travelers should not wait until the last minute to register. Each registration is valid for two years from the date of approval or until the traveler obtains a new passport, whichever comes first. This means that travelers can travel to the U.S. multiple times within two years without having to register again. From November 29, 2016, we encourage travelers to check the status of their application or registration on the EVUS website before going to the airport. Can someone else update information on behalf of the traveler in EVUS system?
Yes. Friends, relatives, travel professionals, or other third parties can submit the required information to EVUS on behalf of the traveler.
Third parties can pay the relevant fees on behalf of the traveler. However, the traveler is responsible for the authenticity and accuracy of all information submitted on their behalf. What is a B1, B2 or B1/B2
visa? How to confirm the type of visa held? The visa type is shown in the upper right corner of the visa page. Is a new photo required for registration? Does the photo need to be different
from the photo submitted during the visa application?

EVUS No. EVUS 于签证申请时提交的照片?
不用。EVUS Passengers will not be required to submit photos or fingerprints. This update will require passengers to answer a series of questions about themselves, their work, background, past travel itineraries/destinations, etc. Questions about registration and the DS-160
EVUS Are the questions on the registration form the same as the questions on the DS-160 visa application form? Although there are some differences, and the wording of the questions may be slightly different from the visa application, most of the information required for EVUS
is included in the DS-160 visa application form. Is there an age-based exemption from registration?
EVUS No. All travelers, regardless of age, who hold a People's Republic of China passport and a 10-year B1/B2
B1, or B2 visa must have a valid EVUS enrollment to travel to the United States. Will this regulation affect travelers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau? Any traveler departing from these regions holding a People's Republic of China passport and a 10-year valid B1/B2
or B2 visa must register with EVUS. Travelers using other travel documents (including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan passports) may continue to travel to the United States as they currently do.
