A Decade of Enduring Friendship — Zhenghe International Hosts Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodities Fair: A Glimpse of Ten Years of Memories.

03-20

Under the fluttering Nigerian flag, the green and white are refreshing and pleasing to the eye, symbolizing the Nigerian people's pursuit and yearning for agricultural prosperity and peace. Zhenghe Exhibition has been on this path of friendly assistance for ten years!

The Lagos International Trade Fair in Nigeria began in 1981 and has been held annually since 1986, for a total of 30 consecutive years. The exhibition is organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, supported by the Nigerian Federal Government and the Lagos State Government. Nearly 20 countries from Africa, Europe, America, and Asia participate, with attendees mainly from ECOWAS countries. Currently, it is the largest in West Africa in terms of scale and influence, and is an important economic and trade cooperation and exchange platform in Africa.

Relying on the Lagos International Trade Fair, in 2006, we began researching the Nigerian market in Africa. As Africa's largest economy, Nigeria's abundant energy resources make it attractive to strong enterprises. However, the backwardness of infrastructure has severely hampered the progress of industrialization and urbanization. Based on the idea of achieving complementary advantages and balanced import and export between Chinese and Nigerian enterprises, strengthening the effective connection between domestic enterprises and the Nigerian market, and achieving mutual benefit and win-win results, with the assistance of multiple parties, the Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodity Exhibition was launched in 2007. Thus, the "China Pavilion" made its shy debut, embarking on a path of accumulating strength for a powerful leap!
For ten years, with the old exhibition hall's outdated facilities and equipment, we invested funds for four consecutive years to purchase special exhibition materials for renovation and construction; the old exhibition hall lacked complete supporting facilities such as water, electricity, and sanitation, so we rolled up our sleeves and had professionals lay lines to ensure that each booth could be presented from the best perspective; located in a tropical savanna climate, the hot weather not only prevented exhibits from being displayed properly but also deterred many exhibitors and professional visitors, causing them to leave hastily. Therefore, Zhenghe Exhibition purchased and installed high-power air conditioning and fan equipment to ensure a more comfortable exhibition environment. The carefully planned and arranged Chinese elements on site impressed many foreign exhibitors, and made domestic exhibitors feel less unfamiliar and isolated; here, we are one family!
After nearly ten years of development, our China Pavilion has grown from "thin" to "full," a journey that was arduous but sweet to remember. The China Pavilion has also been awarded the "Largest Foreign Exhibitor" and "Best Foreign Exhibition Organizer" awards by the organizer for many consecutive years. Each exhibition has received great attention and warm reception from the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos and the local Nigerian government, acknowledging and appreciating Zhenghe Exhibition's efforts for the Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodity Exhibition.

Over the past ten years, the number and scale of participating enterprises in the Lagos China Commodity Exhibition have grown significantly. Exhibitors have included well-known enterprises such as Haier, Hisense, Changhong, Zhigao, Midea, Sany Heavy Industry, Gongyou Machinery, Sinochem Group, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, Zhongtong Bus, Shifeng Group, Jincheng Motorcycle, China Railway Construction Corporation, Shaanxi Automobile, Shandong Transportation Industry Group, Zhejiang Oriental Group, and Huamei Electric Appliances. The exhibition areas have gradually expanded to include machinery and electromechanical equipment, building materials, hardware tools, vehicles and parts, home appliances and household goods, food industry and equipment, plastics industry and products, security and fire protection, chemical products and equipment, oil and gas equipment, water industry, beauty and hairdressing products, textiles and clothing, fitness equipment, sports and cultural goods, pharmaceuticals and health products and medical devices, IT technology and products, etc. Over the past ten years, countless companies have successfully entered the African market through the China Commodity Exhibition. Long-time clients have overcome difficulties and reaped rich rewards, while new clients eagerly await opportunities. We have witnessed their growth, and the China Commodity Exhibition has paved the way for each enterprise.
According to statistics from Zhenghe Exhibition, nearly 30,000 people attended the China Pavilion in 2015, including nearly 10,000 professional buyers. Many exhibitors have established branch offices and representative offices in Lagos, Nigeria, through the exhibition platform for many years. 2016 marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria. During Nigerian President Buhari's visit to China, President Xi Jinping expressed strong support for President Buhari's economic diversification policy. Many provincial commerce departments have designated the Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodity Exhibition as a key exhibition, encouraging domestic enterprises to use the exhibition platform to enter Africa and showcase their image.

Zhenghe Exhibition visited Nigerian automotive technology and other industry associations to promote cooperation on the 2025 Nigeria (Lagos) China Goods Expo.

From January 3rd to 6th, 2025, representatives of Zhenghe Exhibition's overseas staff successively visited the secretariat of the Nigerian Automotive Technicians Association (NATA), the Amalgamated Union of Automobile Motor Mechanics and Technicians of Nigeria (AUOMMATON), and the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN). This visit primarily focused on in-depth discussions and exchanges regarding cooperation for the 2025 Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodities Fair. During the meetings, representatives of Zhenghe Exhibition's overseas staff introduced the basic situation of the Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodities Fair to the heads of the business associations. The heads of the various business associations acknowledged the significant achievements made by the exhibition in recent years. During the discussions, the three industry association leaders provided detailed information about their respective associations. As leaders and promoters of associations related to the automotive industry in Nigeria, these three associations have a wide influence in Nigeria and even West Africa. Against the backdrop of continuously deepening and upgrading China-Africa cooperation, they expressed high expectations for actively promoting trade cooperation between Nigeria and China in the automotive industry. The heads of the associations also stated their willingness to work with Zhenghe International Exhibition to jointly promote the continuous development of the Nigeria (Lagos) China Commodities Fair, uniformly organize member units to participate in the exhibition, and conduct one-on-one matchmaking discussions with Chinese exhibitors. As Africa's second-largest economy and most populous country, Nigeria has a huge demand for automotive and auto parts products, largely relying on imports. In Nigeria, over 90% of Nigerians tend to choose 'tokunbo' (used cars), which makes the 'tokunbo' distribution business very profitable in Nigeria. With the Nigerian government relaxing age restrictions on imported used cars, the volume of used car imports will further increase. Consequently, the auto parts market, both upstream and downstream of Nigeria's used car industry chain, will also see more opportunities. After years of operation by Chinese automakers, Chinese cars have established considerable 'prestige' in Nigeria. At the same time, the scarcity of local car repair outlets and the high cost of spare parts in Nigeria also indicate immense potential for Chinese auto parts exports to the Nigerian market.
