With the complete lifting of Japan's state of emergency declaration, there have been some changes in the application details for visas at the Japanese Embassy, and several new types of visas have been opened for application. Many people have been inquiring about visa issues, so today we will provide a detailed explanation!

From March 22nd, the Japanese Embassy can accept applications for the following visas to Japan. Relevant personnel can submit visa application materials; if there are no problems after the embassy's review, the visa will be issued.
Residence Status (Long-term Visa)
1. Spouse and children of Japanese nationals
2. Spouse and children of permanent residents
3. Spouse and children of long-term residents (Notice No. 5 and Notice No. 6)
4. Holders of a Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status 1584 (marked in red in the upper right corner of the Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status)
5. Residence status for education and teaching (requires submission of the original document explaining the urgent need to travel to Japan from the accepting institution in Japan)
6. Holders of a residence status for medical purposes (requires submission of the original document explaining the urgent need to travel to Japan from the accepting institution in Japan)
7. Permanent resident changing to long-term resident visa
Family Visit (Short-term Visa)
1. Spouse and children of Japanese nationals
2. Spouse and children of permanent residents

After Japan announced the lifting of the "state of emergency," the measures prohibiting the entry of new foreign nationals have been further extended. Long-term visas such as for study, and short-term visas such as for business, are still unavailable! Details are as follows:
1. Phased measures to suspend international personnel movement ("B channel" and "R channel")
2. Suspension of new entries from all countries and regions
3. Suspension of special measures for returning to or re-entering Japan from all countries and regions due to short-term business trips

In addition, visa applications are now being accepted for those involved in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, athletes, artists, government-funded students, JICA students, and JET Program participants.
Required Visa Application Materials
The materials required when applying for a visa vary depending on the type of residence status. Additional supplementary materials may be requested as needed for visa review.
1. Materials required for all applicants
(1) Visa application form (with a 4.5cm × 4.5cm white background photo attached)
(2) Passport
(3) Copy of household registration (first page and applicant's page)
(4) Residence certificate or other proof of residence (only for applicants whose household registration is not under the jurisdiction of this embassy)
(5) Original and copy of Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status
