Exhibition Introduction

The PLMA Chicago Private Label Trade Show, successfully held for 41 years, is the only trade show in the Americas entirely dedicated to private brands. It offers a unique opportunity to meet with retail decision-makers and serves as a platform for retailers and suppliers to discuss and establish their own private label businesses. It's an excellent avenue for companies to enter the American retail private label market. A similar exhibition is held annually in Amsterdam every May.

In 2019, 1439 companies from 54 countries and regions participated, exhibiting 2570 booths and establishing 54 national exhibition areas. There were 429 international exhibitors and over 5200 professional buyers. Buyers came from supermarkets, drugstore chains, large retailers, discount stores, clubs, dollar stores and convenience stores, online and specialty retailers, food service distributors and wholesalers.

Products spanned thousands of categories, including food, beverages and snacks, health and beauty, over-the-counter drugs, household paper and cleaning products, household goods, daily necessities, etc. Fresh and organic foods will also be showcased at the 2022 PLMA show, as retailers are seeking suppliers who can bring these categories into stores. Market research shows that plant-based diets have a loyal following among shoppers, resulting in continued growth in this market. With consumer interest in cooking greater than ever, exhibitors with private label cookware and lifestyle products will be a significant part of the show floor.

Market Analysis

Today's retailers place a high value on expanding store brands to meet evolving consumer trends. PLMA's trade show reflects the latest consumer preferences and choices. The show covers every major private label category, showcasing the latest market trends. As a result, many retailers bring their entire procurement teams (including category managers and packaging experts) to the show. For exhibitors, this is a valuable opportunity to collaborate with clients and develop products to increase sales. Walmart launched its Great Value private label in 1992. After more than 20 years of development, Great Value's sales have reached nearly US\$10 billion, with the brand encompassing 2000 products, generating significant sales and profits for Walmart.
