Exhibition Introduction

　　As we all know, SIAL, held in Paris in October of even-numbered years, is currently the largest international food exhibition in the world. Each session attracts numerous food manufacturers, traders, purchasers, and professional buyers from all over the world. Therefore, the organizer, Comexposium, decided to establish a branch exhibition of the same brand in Canada in 2001, namely, the SIAL Canada (formerly known as SIAL Montreal, renamed SIAL Canada in 2009). Starting from 2007, the SIAL Canada changed from being held in odd-numbered years to being held annually, in Montreal in even-numbered years and in Toronto in odd-numbered years.

　　SIAL Canada is the only large-scale international food exhibition in Canada. Montreal, the second largest city in Canada, boasts 4992 restaurants, over 80 different customs and various culinary styles, making it a hub for North American cuisine and multiculturalism. Benefiting from the huge market potential of Ontario, this region accounts for 35% of Canada's food retail sales and 40% of food service sales, and has now developed into the largest international food base in North America. In addition, after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the United States enacted a series of regulations to restrict the amount of Chinese food imports, requiring all food companies exporting to the United States to register with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration first. This has had a significant impact on Chinese food entering the North American market. Canada's main trading partner is the United States, with trade with the U.S. accounting for over 80% of its total foreign trade. Therefore, Canada will be the best springboard for Chinese food to enter the U.S. market. SIAL Canada will become an excellent platform for Chinese food to enter the Canadian and U.S. markets, bringing more and more business opportunities to exhibiting companies.

　　In 2010, SIAL Canada attracted 697 companies from 37 countries, with an exhibition area of 15,300 square meters. 12,415 professionals from 61 countries attended to purchase products. According to statistics, each exhibiting company received 385 purchasers in 2010.
