Tehran Times reported on April 18 that according to Reza Jafarzadeh, head of the International Office of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, the Iranian cabinet recently approved a new policy expanding the current seven-day visa on arrival for foreign travelers at six international airports to fifteen days at ten international airports.
The official said that these ten international airports are: Imam Khomeini, Mehrabad, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, Tabriz, Asalouyeh, Bushehr, Qeshm Island, and Kish Island.
The official explained that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has visa offices at these airports, responsible for processing visa applications for foreign travelers. Applicants must submit tickets indicating the departure date, and passports must be valid for at least six months. According to documents from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign travelers who have reached the 15-day limit on their visa on arrival can apply for an extension of up to one month if needed.
The official further explained that the new policy stipulates that airport visa offices and immigration authorities will work on-site and issue visas promptly. If travelers have special circumstances, the visa office can expedite the visa within one hour.
This new policy currently only applies to citizens of 68 countries holding valid ordinary passports. The new policy also specifically mentions restricted countries: Czech Republic, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Argentina; and countries that receive refugees such as: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Algeria.
