China-Chile Free Trade Area Service Trade Agreement implemented from August 1st

According to the Ministry of Commerce website, the "Supplementary Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Chile on Trade in Services under the Free Trade Agreement" (i.e., the China-Chile FTA Service Trade Agreement) came into effect on August 1, 2010.
It is reported that China and Chile signed the aforementioned agreement on April 13, 2008. According to the agreement, 23 sectors and sub-sectors in China, including computer services, management consulting, real estate, mining, environment, sports, and air transport, as well as 37 sectors and sub-sectors in Chile, including legal services, architectural design, engineering, computer services, R&D, real estate, advertising, management consulting, mining, manufacturing, leasing, distribution, education, environment, tourism, sports, and air transport, will further open up to each other based on their respective WTO commitments.
The implementation of the agreement will help the two countries further open up their service markets to each other, enhance complementary advantages, and improve international competitiveness; it will help improve the investment environment, create business opportunities, reduce transaction costs, and bring more benefits to enterprises and people of both countries; it will also help promote comprehensive cooperation in various fields between the two countries, expand areas of cooperation, improve the level of cooperation, and facilitate the in-depth development of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970, China and Chile have maintained sound and stable bilateral relations. During the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Busan, South Korea, on November 18, 2005, the "China-Chile Free Trade Agreement" (mainly covering trade in goods) was signed under the witness of Chairman Hu Jintao and former Chilean President Ricardo Lagos. On October 1, 2006, the "China-Chile Free Trade Agreement" came into effect.
