III. Market Introduction

1. Market Overview

China's heavy truck components industry currently focuses on high-growth emerging markets, including India, ASEAN, Mexico, Brazil, etc., all of which are markets that should be targeted and competed for. Auto parts manufacturers are actively transforming, moving towards digital manufacturing, modularization, and cost rationalization, expanding production scale, developing independent key technologies for complete vehicles, and strengthening modular component R&D, which are the future development priorities for auto parts manufacturers. In the Mexican automotive market, heavy trucks and commercial vehicles account for over 30%. Mexico has vast market expansion space, and leveraging the tariff preferential advantages of the North American Trade Agreement, tariffs on heavy trucks were abolished after 2009, creating an excellent opportunity for Chinese heavy truck component manufacturers to enter Central and South American countries. To generate more profits, Chinese auto parts manufacturers, in addition to actively participating in relevant regulatory certifications, should also focus on improving product manufacturing and developing high-value-added component sub-systems or system modules, actively deploying in the Mexican heavy truck components market.

Mexico has a total of 21 vehicle manufacturers distributed across 11 states in the central and northern regions. Currently, over 51 types of commercial vehicles and trucks are produced in Mexico, as shown in Figure 1, which represents Mexico's automotive industry cluster. Most existing Mexican component manufacturers are located near industrial clusters, and the production chain includes vehicle assembly as well as engine castings, stamped parts, etc.

2. Truck and Commercial Vehicle Component Manufacturers Favor the Mexican Market Reasons

①Its capital and largest city, Mexico City, is also a state. Mexico boasts an excellent geographical location, bordering the United States, and is an important member of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Connecting south to North America, it serves as a crucial starting point for entering the Latin American market. Its total population exceeds 120 million, making it the eleventh most populous country in the world, the most populous Spanish-speaking country, and the second most populous country in Latin America.

②Mexico's commercial vehicles (Classes 4 to 8) rank among the top fifteen in the world. Due to the shift in the US automotive consumer market characteristics and demand towards light-duty pickup trucks, Mexico's automotive production types, in addition to general passenger vehicles, have a relatively higher proportion of light-duty trucks or small commercial vehicles. In 2018, Mexico produced 1.9 million passenger vehicles (accounting for 46.7%), 2 million small commercial vehicles and light-duty trucks (accounting for 49.2%), and 168,000 heavy trucks (accounting for 4.1%). Therefore, major heavy vehicle suppliers have production lines in Mexico, and the automotive output value reached 260 billion, with 30% belonging to commercial vehicles.
