II. Exhibit Scope

Products suitable for supermarkets, including those that can be directly sold in supermarkets, department stores, chain stores, and discount stores, as well as products intended for private label production for large European supermarkets. Specifically including:

Food

1. Seasonings and Sauces: Soy sauce, pickles, olives, honey, jams, peanut butter, etc.

2. Canned Food: Canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned meat, canned seafood

3. Confectionery and Snacks: Various candies, waffles, chocolates, nuts, potato chips, protein bars, other high-protein or low-sugar snacks, and nutritional supplements.

4. Pasta: Pasta, cereals, oatmeal, etc.

5. Pet Food and Care Products: Senior pet food, snacks, eco-friendly chew toys, supplements, training snacks and toys for dogs, cats, and other animals.

Household Goods

1. Cleaning Supplies: Wet wipes, cleaning cloths, disinfectants, laundry beads, color-catching sheets, multi-purpose kitchen cleaners, etc.

2. Paper Products and Disposable Items: Toilet paper, paper plates, paper cups, garbage bags, plastic bags, cling film, disposable tableware, aluminum foil products, etc.

3. Kitchen Utensils: Cleaning cloths, cleaning sponges, brushes, gloves; storage boxes, storage bins, non-woven bags, etc.

4. Outdoor & Garden Supplies: Barbecue equipment, charcoal, lighters, outdoor lighting, etc.

5. Party & Holiday Supplies: Christmas headwear, decorative balloons, lights, ornaments, and small gifts, etc.

Health and Beauty

1. Baby care, feminine care, adult care

Diapers, baby skincare, incontinence products, sanitary napkins, wet wipes, etc.

2. Beauty and Cosmetic Products

Hair care: Shampoo, conditioner, hair growth and coloring products; combs, hair dryers, curling irons, etc.

Skincare: Facial cleanser, face mask, lotion, face cream, shower gel, bath sponge, etc.

Cosmetics: Razors, shaving cream, depilatory, deodorant, makeup, cotton pads, cotton balls, cotton swabs, etc.

Personal Care: Toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrush, dental floss, etc.; eye care, lip care, etc.

III. Market Introduction

Overview of the US Private Label Market:

Market Growth: Private label brands show strong growth in the US market. In 2023, total sales of store brands rose to $236.3 billion, an increase of $10.1 billion over the previous year, setting another record. Private label sales increased by 6%, and volume increased by 0.9%.

Consumer Buying Motives: Nearly half ( 43%) of consumers buy private label products to save money, 58% believe private label products offer good value, but less than a third (29%) believe private label quality is comparable to name brands.

Consumer Trends: Almost every American household purchased private label goods in the past year. All American households purchased private label groceries, followed by health and beauty, household goods, and home and garden.

Product Category Performance: In the 10 food and non-food categories tracked by PLMA, store brand sales in 2023 increased in all categories except tobacco (down 16%). The fastest-growing categories were beauty (+10.5%), general food (+10%), beverages (+8.9%), and household care (+8.7%). This was followed by frozen (+4.4%), general merchandise (+4%), health (+2.4%), refrigerated (+1.8%), and alcohol (+1%).

Retailer Dependence: Among the 20 largest retailers in the US, Aldi and Trader Joe’s are most reliant on private label products, accounting for 80% and 69% of their total sales, respectively. Walmart has five brands with over 50% penetration among American households, including Great Value, Equate, Mainstays, Marketside, and Freshness Guaranteed. Kroger’s “Smart Way” brand, launched at the end of 2022, was the fastest-growing private label brand in the past year, with sales increasing by 135%.

IV. Review of Previous Sessions

Exhibits included two major categories: food and non-food. In 2024, a total of 1820 exhibitors from 63 countries participated in the exhibition, with 2985 booths. Among them, 1362 were food companies and 458 were non-food companies. There were also nearly 7000 professional buyers. Buyers consisted of chain stores, supermarkets, shopping malls, discount stores, drugstores, hypermarkets, convenience stores, etc., from all over the world, including importers, wholesalers, and military procurers. The products purchased covered thousands of categories, mainly focusing on food, beverages and snacks, health and beauty, over-the-counter drugs, household paper and cleaning products, household goods, daily necessities, etc. During the exhibition, a number of themed seminars and workshops were held simultaneously. A special "PLMA Idea Supermarket" display area will be set up at the exhibition to showcase finished products and packaging of global well-known store brands.
