In recent years, with the rapid growth of e‑commerce, cross‑border e‑commerce has become a fast‑track channel for companies worldwide to expand into overseas markets. Market Overview

1. The RCEP has created vast opportunities for China-ASEAN cooperation.

China and ASEAN share contiguous landscapes, and in the face of the severe challenges posed by the pandemic and rising trade protectionism, their combined import‑export volume has surpassed that of the European Union and the United States, making ASEAN China’s largest trading partner. The recently concluded RCEP will become the world’s largest free‑trade area, significantly bolstering ASEAN’s position as the economic hub of Asia. Thailand, at the heart of ASEAN, with its distinctive exotic charm, favorable investment policies, open trade regime, and well‑integrated global supply chains, has attracted a growing number of Chinese enterprises to expand into ASEAN and tap into the Thai market. According to statistics, bilateral trade between China and Thailand exceeded US$133.98 billion in 2024, while from January to August, Thailand’s imports from China totaled US$55.036 billion, primarily comprising electrical machinery and parts, chemicals, household appliances, and steel and steel products.

2. In recent years, Thailand’s e-commerce market has experienced rapid growth.

As Southeast Asia’s second-largest e‑commerce market, Thailand has attracted numerous cross‑border e‑commerce players. Government policy support, high internet penetration, and a favorable business environment have created ideal conditions for the sector’s growth in the country. Data indicate that Thailand’s online retail market—covering both B2C and C2C segments—is projected to reach THB 4 trillion by 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 75% from 2022 to 2025. Social commerce plays a pivotal role in Thailand’s e‑commerce landscape, accounting for roughly one-third of total transaction value. Over 73% of the population uses social platforms such as LINE, Facebook, and Instagram, while TikTok boasts more than 40 million users, making it a dominant force across Southeast Asia.

3. Small and medium-sized enterprises are the mainstay of e-commerce.

E‑commerce platforms provide Thai small and medium-sized enterprises with multifaceted support, including content, resources, and marketing channels. While boosting the growth of Thailand’s cross‑border e‑commerce and express delivery sectors and creating jobs across related industries, these platforms also accelerate the flow of goods, thereby driving the expansion of Thailand’s cross‑border trade. According to data from Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, SMEs account for as much as 99% of all businesses in the country, generating employment for more than 13 million people—70% of the nation’s total workforce—and serving as a key driver of Thailand’s economic development and resilience.
