2026 Russian International Machine Tool Exhibition

METALWORKING 2026

I. Exhibition Overview

Exhibition Name: Russian International Machine Tool Exhibition (METALLOOBRABOTKA 2026)

Exhibition Dates: May 12–15, 2026

Exhibition Venue: Crocus Expo, Moscow, Russia

Exhibition Duration: Held annually.

Organizing Entity: Shandong Zhenghe International Exhibition Co., Ltd.

Exhibition Overview:

The Russian International Machine Tool Exhibition (METALLOOBRABOTKA) is co‑organized by the Russian Machine Tool Association and the Expocentre Exhibition Center, with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the European Machine Tool Industries Cooperation Association. First held in 1984, the exhibition takes place annually and is the largest and most influential specialized machine tool fair in Russia. In 2019, the event featured a net exhibition space of 42,000 square meters, attracting 1,186 exhibitors from 33 countries and regions, and drawing over 30,000 visitors from 57 countries worldwide. Internationally renowned machine tool manufacturers showcased at large, custom‑designed booths, including AMADA, DMG, EMAG‑GRUPPEN, MAZAK, MUELLER MACHINES, SANDVIK, TRUMPF, and others.

According to Samodurov, president of the Russian Machine Tool Association, despite ongoing economic instability in Russia, the country’s total output of modern tools and machinery has been steadily increasing. He noted that production of multi‑purpose equipment is declining, while output of CNC systems and machining centers is rising year after year. China has emerged as the world’s leading producer of metalworking machinery, with Germany and Japan close behind. Together, these three countries account for roughly two-thirds of global metalworking equipment production. Improving manufacturing standards and the widespread adoption of metalworking machinery are key prerequisites for future breakthroughs in science and technology.

II. Scope of Exhibits

Metalworking Equipment and Technologies: forging and stamping machinery, casting equipment, surface‑treatment and coating systems, metal‑cutting tools, and control and measurement instruments; components and finished products, technological equipment, software, and consumables: CNC systems, computer‑aided design systems, electrical devices and actuators, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, gearboxes and geared motors, control systems, molds, fixtures, and related accessories; maintenance and modernization services for technological equipment and spare parts; additive manufacturing technologies and industrial 3D printing; welding and related processes; robotics and factory automation; CALS technologies (PLM, PDM, CAE/CAD/CAM): process analysis and reengineering, product data integration; advanced materials for metalworking; subcontracting, investment, and innovation projects; science, professional education, and production; industrial ecology; industrial design; Industry 4.0; surface‑treatment equipment and technologies.

III. Market Analysis

The Russian metalworking industry is a vital component of both the Russian and the global economies. Within Russia’s economy, metalworking ranks as the third-largest sector, behind oil and gas and agriculture, and serves as a primary supplier of raw materials to the automotive, oil and gas, construction, and machinery‑manufacturing industries.

According to official data, in 2024, domestically produced machine tools accounted for less than 2% of the Russian market, while imported machines captured 98.3%. Among these imports, Chinese-made machine tools represented 71%, with a value of US$1.61 billion—up from just 20–25% of import value in 2020–2021. China’s strong position stems primarily from its competitive price‑performance ratio, comprehensive product range, and the ease of rapid procurement. Meanwhile, the underdevelopment of Russia’s electronics sector severely constrains the growth of its machine‑tool industry; currently, 100% of Russian electronic‑product manufacturing lines rely on foreign‑made equipment. China’s machine‑tool industry thus holds enormous potential for expanding into the Russian market.
