III. Market Overview:

In recent years, the South American market has continued to heat up, and with economic growth, Colombia’s economic structure has undergone significant changes. The agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector—encompassing farming, forestry, and hunting—has declined from 39.6% of GDP to 17.4%, while the industrial sector—including mining, construction, gas, water, electricity, and manufacturing—has risen from 16.8% to 34.8%. Colombia primarily imports machinery and equipment, chemical products, textiles, and metal materials. According to statistics from Colombia’s Customs and Tax Administration, bilateral trade between Colombia and China totaled US$4.66 billion from January to June 2011, an increase of 31.9%. Of this, Colombia’s imports from China amounted to US$3.47 billion, up 57.5% and accounting for 13.4% of Colombia’s total imports. China is Colombia’s second-largest source of imports and its second-largest export market.

The Bogotá Industrial Fair was first held in 1954 and takes place every two years, organized by CORFERIAS, Colombia’s largest exhibition company. As the country’s largest and longest-running industrial trade show, it has exerted influence across the entire South American region.
