III. Market Overview:

South Korea is a developed country and a founding member of APEC, the World Trade Organization, and the East Asia Summit. It is also a member of the OECD, the G20, and the United Nations. Furthermore, South Korea is a global leader in shipbuilding, accounting for more than 40% of worldwide shipbuilding orders each year. In 2019, the Korean machine tool industry recorded exports worth US$181.802 billion and imports totaling US$114.226 billion, with US$22.382 billion in imports from China and US$32.218 billion in exports to China. Among imported machine tools, the bulk of imports are concentrated in general machinery, electrical machinery, precision mechanical components, material-handling equipment, and machine-tool parts and materials, with general and electrical machinery accounting for over 63% of the total import value. Over recent years, domestic exhibitors have noted strong market interest in South Korea, with surging demand for CNC machine tools, laser cutting equipment, metalworking machinery, and machine-tool accessories.
