Nigeria cuts 2020 budget by 312.8 billion

According to The Punch, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning submitted a draft amendment to the 2020 budget to the National Assembly. The draft proposes a ₦312.8 billion (approximately $869 million) reduction in Nigeria's 2020 fiscal budget, a decrease of about 20%. This primarily affects projects implemented in the Niger Delta, the Northeast, healthcare, and other economic sectors.
The Niger Delta budget will be reduced from ₦80.88 billion to ₦29.52 billion, a decrease of 63.5%; the Northeast budget will be reduced from ₦38.1 billion to ₦14.07 billion, a decrease of 63.1%; and the basic healthcare budget will be reduced from ₦44.49 billion to ₦17.98 billion, a decrease of 59.6%.
In addition, there will be significant cuts to budgets for holiday celebrations, office building construction, and the purchase of vehicles, furniture, and land. (Chen Mingzhi)
