6. Exhibition Introduction:

The Korea International Machine Tool Show (SIMTOS) was founded in 1984 and held every two years. It has successfully held 18 editions to date and is the most representative exhibition in Korea's machine tool industry. As Korea's only world-class machine tool exhibition, SIMTOS leads the development of the global machine tool industry. Its scale has surpassed that of JIMTOF, the Tokyo International Machine Tool Fair in Japan, one of the world's traditional four major machine tool exhibitions. In 2018, the machine tool exhibition had 35 participating countries, 1222 exhibitors, and 6055 booths, expanding its scale by 32.6% compared to the previous edition.

7. Exhibition Review:

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, SIMTOS 2020 could not be held as scheduled. However, the enthusiasm of SIMTOS 2020 exhibitors was high, with over 95% of booths sold 12 months before the opening, and the average exhibition scale of enterprises increased by 0.96% compared to 2018.

The exhibition scale of Chinese exhibitors set a new record for SIMTOS, with 101 Chinese (including Taiwan) enterprises participating, with a cumulative exhibition area of 7137㎡. There was 1 exhibitor with an area of 630㎡, 2 with 360㎡-540㎡, 13 with 100㎡-270㎡, and 63 with 18㎡-54㎡. Among these, machine tool and laser enterprises accounted for 55% and 17% of the Chinese delegation respectively. The exhibition scale of domestic laser cutting enterprises was remarkable, with a total area exceeding 4000㎡.

II. Exhibition Scope:

Metal cutting and metal processing, metal cutting and welding, parts and materials, machine tools, automation, CAD / CAM, measuring machines, robotics, tools and related machinery, 3D printing etc.

III. Market Introduction:

South Korea is a founding member of APEC, the World Trade Organization, and the East Asia Summit, and also a member of important international organizations such as the OECD, G20, and the United Nations. South Korea is also a global shipbuilding powerhouse, with annual orders for large vessels accounting for over 70% of global orders. Due to the enduring strength of the shipbuilding industry, the machine tool industry has experienced vigorous development.

In 2018, South Korea's machine tool industry had an export value of USD 181.802 billion and an import value of USD 114.226 billion. Of these, imports from China amounted to USD 22.382 billion, and exports to China amounted to USD 32.218 billion. Machine tool products imported from China mainly concentrated on general machinery, electrical machinery, precision mechanical parts, material handling machinery, machine tool accessories, and materials, with general machinery and electrical machinery accounting for over 63% of the import value.
