II. Exhibition Introduction

The Korea International Machine Tool Show is hosted by the Korea Machine Tool Industry Association and strongly supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, Gyeonggi-do, the Federation of Small & Medium Business, KOTRA, and the Korea International Trade Association. Founded in 1984 and held biennially, the show has successfully held 20 sessions, making it the most representative exhibition in Korea's machine tool industry. As Korea's only world-class machine tool exhibition, SIMTOS leads the development trends of the global machine tool industry. Its scale has surpassed that of JIMTOF, one of the world's four major traditional machine tool exhibitions in Japan. In 2022, the machine tool exhibition attracted exhibitors from 29 countries, with 854 exhibitors and 4825 booths.

III. Market Analysis

South Korea is a developed country and a founding member of APEC, the World Trade Organization, and the East Asia Summit. It is also a member of the OECD, the G20, and other important international organizations of the United Nations. South Korea is also a global shipbuilding powerhouse, with annual shipbuilding orders accounting for over 40% of the global total.

In 2019, South Korea's machine tool industry exported US$181.802 billion and imported US$114.226 billion. Of this, US$22.382 billion was imported from China, and US$32.218 billion was exported to China. Imports from China mainly focused on general machinery, power machinery, precision mechanical parts, handling machinery, machine tool accessories and materials, with general machinery and power machinery accounting for over 63% of imports.

In recent years, judging from the enthusiasm of domestic exhibitors for the South Korean market, the demand for various CNC machine tools, laser cutting, metal processing machinery, and machine tool accessories has surged.
