Market Brief:

     The Philippine economy is a typical highly domestic-demand driven economy, with private consumption accounting for about 70% of its GDP. Since the beginning of this year, the Philippine government has significantly increased investment in infrastructure, planning to invest over 17 billion US dollars in roads and airports, which has led to substantial growth in both government consumption and construction sector investment. In the 2012 budget, the government allocated approximately 8.178 billion US dollars for infrastructure construction. In the 2013 budget, this figure rose to 9.756 billion US dollars, reaching a historical high. The Philippine International Building Materials and Hardware Exhibition has been successfully held for 21 sessions to date, making it one of the most important hardware and building materials exhibitions in Asia, and the largest hardware and building materials exhibition in the Philippines. According to official data, the 2016 Worldbex exhibition featured nearly 1,000 booths, with 530 participating companies, including 320 local exhibitors and 210 international exhibitors. Exhibiting companies mainly came from 17 countries: Australia, China, Finland, Germany, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Romania, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States. 18,000 professional visitors attended, of whom architects accounted for 9.07%, buyers for 9.07%, builders for 8.43%, distributors for 7.65%, developers for 7.40%, and agents for 6.18%.

The Philippine government announced on November 28, 2012, that the country's GDP increased by 7.1% year-on-year in the third quarter of this year, higher than market expectations and the 6.0% growth in the second quarter. Data showed that, calculated by expenditure method, both the domestic and external economic sectors of the Philippines achieved significant growth in the third quarter of this year. Private consumption increased by 6.2% year-on-year, and government consumption increased by 12%, both higher than the 5.9% and 6.8% in the second quarter. Investment increased by 4.3% year-on-year, a significant decrease from the 7.3% in the second quarter, but construction investment increased by 24.8%, much higher than the 12.6% in the second quarter. Exports increased by 6.9%, a slight decrease from the 8.3% in the second quarter. The data also showed that the Philippine economy grew by 6.5% year-on-year in the first three quarters of this year.

Furthermore, in recent years, economic and trade relations between China and the Philippines have developed rapidly, with construction materials and electromechanical products accounting for more than half of exported products. The Philippines has a per capita GDP exceeding 1,600 US dollars, making it one of the ASEAN countries with stronger purchasing power.
