I. Exhibition Overview
Exhibition Cycle: Annual
Exhibition Dates: April 12-14, 2023
Exhibition Venue: Korme Exhibition Center, Astana (Nur-Sultan)
II. Exhibition Introduction:
Kazakhstan, located in Central Asia, is the world's largest landlocked country, spanning Eurasia and serving as a bridge connecting Asia and Europe. In terms of transportation, Kazakhstan is a transit point for the first and second Eurasian land bridges and a necessary point on the Silk Road. Its new capital, Astana, located in northern Kazakhstan, is the largest transportation hub in Kazakhstan, connecting various parts of the country and forming a vast highway and railway system. Kazakhstan International Automotive Expo (KIAE), in collaboration with the Automechanika brand, provides a professional exchange platform for participants in the European, Asian, and especially Central Asian, CIS, and Caucasus automotive markets, creating convenient conditions for relevant companies to enter these regions.
Since its first launch in 2016, the exhibition has developed rapidly, with the number of exhibitors and visitors increasing year by year. In 2019, the exhibition area covered 5,000 square meters, attracting nearly 200 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Poland, Greece, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, Serbia, Italy, India, and Taiwan. Nearly 80 Chinese companies participated in the exhibition, with tire companies being particularly prominent. Large and well-known tire companies such as Sailun Group, Qingdao Double Star, Wanda Bao Tong, Chaoyang Wamart Tire, and Shandong Xindalu Rubber Technology participated in the exhibition, attracting attention from local media such as CGTN and receiving on-site interviews. With the continuous advancement of the "Belt and Road" initiative, the enthusiasm of Chinese tire companies for overseas factory construction has continued to rise, showing impressive performance. Connecting the tire technology, processes, manufacturing, sales, and services between China and Kazakhstan through Automechanika Astana is very beneficial for the development of both sides' auto parts industries and the internationalization of enterprises. The 2022 exhibition was held from June 23 to 25, showcasing more than 70 brands from Kazakhstan, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Japan, Turkey, China, and Russia, presenting the best solutions for automotive service businesses.
III. Market Overview:
Kazakhstan is the wealthiest and most promising country in Central Asia, with the highest business condition index compared to other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). In 2020, Kazakhstan's automotive manufacturing industry achieved an output value of 612.8 billion tenge, a year-on-year increase of 70.4%, becoming a new major driving force for the growth of Kazakhstan's non-mining industry, industry, and overall economy. It ranked first among the only four countries in the world whose automotive manufacturing industry maintained growth in 2020. In 2021-2022, Kazakhstan's automotive production continued to grow rapidly, with production increasing by 24% in 2021. In the first 10 months of 2022, a total of 97,737 new vehicles were sold nationwide. In recent years, Chinese auto brands have made significant inroads into Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstan Automobile Business Association stated that in 2021, Chinese auto brands accounted for 3.4% of Kazakhstan's new car sales, approximately 4,000 vehicles, double the previous year's sales. However, in the first nine months of 2022 alone, the total sales of four Chinese automakers in Kazakhstan exceeded 6,000 vehicles.
According to official statistics, as of October 1, 2022, the total number of motor vehicles in Kazakhstan was 4.362 million. Among them, light passenger cars accounted for 87.8%, trucks accounted for 10.2%, and buses accounted for 2%. As of June 1, 2022, 50.4% of registered passenger cars were over 20 years old, 21.1% were between 10 and 20 years old, 14.5% were 7-10 years old, 6.4% were 3-7 years old, and 7.4% were less than 3 years old. For trucks and buses, 60.9% of trucks were over 20 years old, and 42.4% of buses were over 20 years old. Regions with a higher proportion of older vehicles mainly include Almaty Oblast, East Kazakhstan Oblast, Karaganda Oblast, Zhambyl Oblast, and South Kazakhstan Oblast. In the past five years, tire demand has increased significantly, with approximately one-third of motor vehicles needing tire replacements each year. Currently, Kazakhstan's tire demand relies entirely on imports, with approximately 6 million light vehicle tires imported annually.
Affected by sanctions, there is a shortage of cars and parts imported from Russia, and the Kazakhstan market is being seized by Chinese automakers. With the progress of Eurasian integration, Kazakhstan has opened up new markets and channels. Trade relations between China and Kazakhstan will also become increasingly close, and now is a good time for Chinese auto brands to enter the Kazakhstan market.
