II. Exhibition Introduction

Automechanika Johannesburg, International Trade Fair for Automotive Parts and Aftermarket Services, is one of the global touring exhibitions under the Automechanika brand, organized by Messe Frankfurt GmbH, and currently the only professional auto parts exhibition in Southern Africa. It meets the demand for high-quality, specialized auto parts exhibitions in the African region and is supported by the Automotive Industry Export Council (AIEC), Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), National Association of Automotive Component and Allied Manufacturers (NAACAM), and National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) of South Africa.

The automotive industry is South Africa's second-largest industry and the largest manufacturing sector, accounting for approximately 7.5% of GDP, 30% of manufacturing output, and 10% of export products, with production accounting for 83% of all of Africa. Although South Africa has a population of less than 50 million, its car ownership exceeds 8 million vehicles. Due to its developed automotive industry, South Africa is also known as the "Detroit of Africa." For Africa, South Africa is the "lever" to pry open the entire African auto parts market. Industry insiders generally believe that South Africa is a bridgehead for the African market, a market with great potential, and the last piece of the "unshared cake" in the world. Especially for Chinese enterprises, more and more people are starting to pay attention to the South African market. However, compared to other African countries, South Africa has higher market entry thresholds and is one of the few African countries with higher requirements for vehicle emissions and safety. In 2019, the exhibition's net exhibition area reached 18,200 square meters, with over 620 exhibitors from 26 countries participating. Concurrently with Automechanika Johannesburg 2019, Futuroad Expo Johannesburg and Scalex Johannesburg were also held. This was a new exhibition encompassing various elements such as auto parts, commercial vehicles, and logistics. Renowned commercial vehicle brands such as Volvo, JMC, FAW, and TATA participated in Futuroad Expo Johannesburg.
